Fashion Spotlight – Cushnie et Ochs

By  |

Pride speaks to one half of design duo extraordinaire and celebrity favourite, Carly, from Cushnie et Ochs.

What do you have in store for A/W 12?

The Fall collection was inspired by the Pedro Almodovar movie The Skin I Live In. So the focus was really about skin and contouring the body – lots of navy/ black, hints of jewel tones and zipper details.

Tons of A-listers have been seen in your designs but who was the most special?

Jessica Alba because she was the first major celebrity to wear our clothes. Eva Longoria has worn several of our pieces, which has been fantastic, Reese Witherspoon was incredible and Kerry Washington looked amazing in one of our looks but dressing Michelle Obama was pretty insane.

Do you feel your heritage has influenced your designs at all?

I think your background and upbringing inherently influences what you do, but its not something I’m conscious of it just happens.  As you grow and develop your aesthetic, that continues through your work.

At what stage did you get the “pinch me – I’ve made it” moment?

I don’t think I’ve really had that moment yet! There are exciting and amazing moments that happen that make you think “wow” but I think if you feel like you’ve arrived it’s probably time for you to leave.
