‘CREED’ Behind The Scenes: “A Rebirth of Rocky”

Warner Bro’s Pictures have released an enticing featurette on the making of CREED which is a spinoff of Hollywood’s long running iconic Rocky series, directed by Ryan Cooger, who is known for his film Fruitvale Station.

The CREED stars Michael B. Jordan as Adonis, the son of Rocky Balboa’s (Sylvester Stallone) former rival and late friend Apollo Creed.

Although never meeting his father as he died before he was born, it doesn’t stop Adonis from wanting to continue on his legacy as there is no doubt that boxing is in his blood; but being new to it all, he needs the help and training from the former heavy weight champion Rocky Balboa to stay standing in the ring.

Ryan Coogler speaks about his passion for the Rocky franchise; he said he was inspired by his father who was a “massive rocky fan” who made him watch Rocky 2 on the regular during his youth as an athlete. A story directed and written by a long time fan of the popular film series shows great potential for a truly great and powerful movie.

In the featurette, Stallone admits that the Creed story is “a rebirth of rocky” by using a new character and a whole new generation as a continuation of the Rocky tradition. The movie continues on Rocky in a completely different way, with different perspectives and different ideas bringing a whole new audience, making the story the most anticipated film of the fall.

Michael B. Jordan expresses that “it’s an honour to be apart of this process and apart of this legacy.”

Stallone says that the film moves into a direction that he has never even considered and said: “I’m truly grateful for it”.

The film also stars two fantastic black actresses, Tessa Thompson (“Selma,” “Dear White People”) as Bianca, a local singer-songwriter who becomes involved with Adonis and Phylicia Rashad (Lifetime’s “Steel Magnolias”) as Mary Anne Creed, Apollo’s widow.

Creed is to be released January 15th, 2016 in the UK.
