The rap game made a landmark at the 61st Grammy Awards on Sunday (10th February) night. Hosted by Fifteen-time Grammy winner and R&B artist Alicia Keys, the night ended in high note as Childish Gambino, Cardi B and Drake took home their awards.
British artist Ella Mai and DJ Mustard took home the ‘Best R&B Song’ prize for their track ‘Boo’d Up’. They both found out about the win ahead of the show when both were on their way to the red carpet, she went felt that her dreams had come true and DJ Mustard was crying with joy.

Rapper Childish Gambino did not attend the event and reportedly declined an invitation to perform at he Grammys, despite his song This is America winning the prestigious Song of the Year award, and Best Music Video. It was the first rap song in history to win Song of the Year at the Grammys.
Notably, Cardi B won Best Rap Album for her fun release, Invasion of Privacy, which was a historical moment as she became the first solo female artist to win for Best Rap Album.
The Bronx rapper was accompanied on stage with husband Offset where she thanked her baby daughter Kulture, and Offset during her Grammys acceptance speech: “When I found out I was pregnant, my album was not complete,” she said “So I was like, ‘I have to get this album done so we can shoot these videos while I’m not showing.”
Amongst the winners was also ‘October’s Very Own’, Drake to have won. Although Drizzy was not thought to be attending, the rapper made a surprise appearance at the ceremony to collect the award for ‘Best Rap Song’ for ‘God’s Plan’.
It was the first year in Grammys history that women had won five of the top album awards; Album of the Year (Kacey Musgraves), Best Pop Album (Ariana Grande), Best Country Album (Kacey Musgraves), Best R&B Album (H.E.R.) and Best Rap Album (Cardi B).
