Janet Jackson receives World Inspiration Award

Congratulations are in order, as global superstar Janet Jackson has received the Worldwide Inspiration Award at the MAMA (Mnet Asian Music Awards)!

The award show, which took place in Hong Kong on Friday (14th December), is the biggest music event in Asia.

While accepting her award, Janet used her speech as a platform to speak out against sexism and abuse saying, ‘I’m very excited and honoured by this wonderful award. I’m deeply humbled by the idea that I’ve inspired others. I dream of an immediate future when women will no longer be controlled, manipulated, or abused.

‘I dream of the end of bigotry and discrimination in any form. I dream of a world in which we join hands across all borders and unite as one. Finally, I dream of a planet where hatred turns to compassion, tolerance turns to understanding, and a healing and lasting peace prevails.’

In other good news, on the same day it was also announced that Janet Jackson would finally be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2019. She gave thanks during her speech: ‘Thank you Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, I am truly honoured and I am happy to be in there with my brother.’ Her brothers of The Jackson 5 were inducted in 1997, with Michael Jackson becoming an inductee for the second time in 2001, as a solo artist.

Towards the end of her speech, Janet also gave a cute shoutout to her nearly two-year-old son, saying, ‘Mama loves you, Eissa.’

This year has been a major success for the iconic performer. After a three-year hiatus she released a new single ‘Made for Now’, featuring Daddy Yankee which became a huge streaming success and gave her the well-deserved return to #1 on the US Dance Charts, for the 20th time.

Janet also performed at the MTV EMAs in November, where she received the Global Icon Award, and earlier this year Janet was honoured with a Billboard Icon Award.

Congratulations, queen!
