It was big smiles all around for a certain east London born actor last night at the 69th annual Golden Globes held in Beverly Hills, California. British actor Idris Elba, best known for his roles in gritty HBO drama The Wire and blockbuster films like Thor, picked up the Golden Globe award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Miniseries or TV Movie for Luther -an immensely popular BBC series about a troubled detective. Clearly thrilled with his big win Idris couldn’t help but express his excitement as he spoke to the media after having accepted his award. Commenting on his win he said: “This is great. We made our little show in London, and now we’re getting this worldwide recognition of it. I love it.”
The actor has quite a few projects in the pipeline for 2012 including Guillermo del Toro’s ambitious, monster versus robot movie, Pacific Rim and the sequel to 2011’s Thor.
Congratulations weren’t just reserved for Mr. Elba as American actress Octavia Spencer’s portrayal of feisty maid Minnie Jackson in The Help earned her the Best Supporting Actress gong and legendary actor Morgan Freeman was honoured with the Cecil B DeMille Lifetime Achievement award.
