This week the Hip Hop world was shocked to learn that mega producer Swizz Beats is listed as Megaupload’s CEO. Reports confirmed that Swizz Beats aka Mr Alicia Keys is one of the masterminds behind the file storing and sharing service which was recently shut down.
The site which makes pirated music and film easy to access was shut down despite the fact that Megaupload contends the majority of its users use the service legitimately.
The producer has been hit hard by allegations that Megaupload is responsible for over $500 million in lost revenues as a result of unlawful file sharing. The news surfaced just days after Wikipedia’s 24-hour blackout in protest of the controversial anti-piracy legislations SOPA and PIPA –voting on which has now been postponed indefinitely due to mass outrage and opposition.
Swizz Beats yet to comment publicly on the allegations made against him.
