The world was saddened today by the news that legendary American soul singer Etta James had passed away at the age of 73. The singer famed for a powerful, earthy voice that spawned hits such as ‘At Last’ and ‘Something Got A Hold On Me’ died of complications relating to leukemia with her husband Artis Mills and sons by her side.
The singer was diagnosed with cancer back in 2010 and died just a few days short of what would have been her 74th birthday this upcoming Wednesday. Her longtime friend and manager Lupe De Leon said of her passing: “This is a tremendous loss for the family, her friends and fans around the world. She was a true original who could sing it all –her music defied category. I worked with Etta for over 30 years. She was my friend and I will miss her always.”
