Rapper Nas opened up about his divorce to singer Kelis for the first time in an interview with a US magazine. Speaking out about their relationship –the couple got married in 2005 after dating for two years before an acrimonious split in 2009 – Nas said, “There was a point where we were trying to hold onto a relationship that was finished,”
The rapper admitted to his marriage ending during the recording of his 2010 Distant Relatives album in when Kelis was pregnant with their now 3-year-old son Knight. He also confessed to questioning if the Caught Out There singer ever loved him once the break up was made public. He added: “I got to a point where I was like, ‘Did she always hate me? And ‘Did she ever love me at all.’ …A lot of divorces are bad because a woman is just being vindictive. She’s not after the money, she just wants you to hurt the way she was hurt.”
Despite admitting to feeling like he had “failed” once the marriage ended, the One Mic rapper said that he is now enjoying life again. “I’m having a good time. I’m not going to bring anybody in to mess that up…I’m not sacrificing my happiness for nobody and their drama. No way.”
