Singer,-songwriter, musician, film producer, humanitarian, new mummy and all round Superwoman Alicia Keys has named Aaliyah as the inspiration behind her Grammy award winning hit ‘If I Ain’t Got You’.
Speaking in an interview, Alicia claimed that the single, taken from her ‘Diary of Alicia Keys’ album was inspired by the tragic death of the late RnB singer. Alicia revealed that the song’s poignant lyrics came to her during a plane journey: “I was so moved to write it and it doesn’t matter how many times I sing it, I love it with the same intensity as when I first wrote and recorded it. The song idea came together right after Aaliyah passed away. It was such a sad time and no one wanted to believe it. It just made everything crystal clear to me—what matters, and what doesn’t.”
