People magazine have published their annual list of the world’s most beautiful woman with singer, Beyonce Knowles coming out on top to become the first ever black women to do so in nine years. The 30-year old, who gave birth to her first child Blue Ivy Carter this year has attributed her newly elevated levels of confidence to being a new mother.
Commenting on the honour, Beyonce told People: “I feel more beautiful than I’ve ever felt because I’ve given birth. I have never felt so connected, never felt like I had such a purpose on this Earth. The best thing about having a daughter is having a true legacy,” she added. “The word ‘love’ means something completely different now.” The singer topped this year’s list beating out tough competition from the likes of the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton, Mission Impossible actress Paula Patton, Mad Men star Christina Hendricks and Modern Family’s Sofia Vergara.
Despite some praising the magazine for finally showcasing diverse sides of beauty by featuring a black woman in Beyonce, others were less impressed and attacked the publication for the decision to give the honour to a black woman with blonde hair and European-friendly features.
