The 2015 SAG awards brought us red carpet greatness and long awaited wins for our favourite actors and actresses. Uzo Aduba was shocked to win for ‘Outstanding performance by a female actor in a comedy series’. The OINTB star expressed tearful excitement as her name was announced, and had the honour of giving a speech when the show won for best comedy later on.
Uzo was the only black actress nominated in the category, beating Julie Bowen from ‘Modern Family’, Edie Falco of ‘Nurse Jackie’, Julia Louis-Dreyfus from ‘Veep’ and Amy Poehler of ‘Parks and Recreation’, to the win.
Aduba took to the stage in a glamorous bright yellow Angel Sanchez gown to give a moving speech. ‘The day I got this job was the day I had stopped acting, and to be in a room with all you amazing human beings, amazing talents, for what I respect so much and love so much, is really truly the greatest honour.”
It was a big night for the Netflix series as Orange Is The New Back cast including Uzo, Laverne Cox and Danielle Brooks, also took the SAG Award for ‘Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series’, making the night a two time triumph for Uzo and OITNB (three if we count the her fabulous dress!).
