We didn’t even see it coming!
Millions of young teens were left heartbroken this morning when British R’n’B four-piece JLS announced that they were going their separate ways.
In a statement released by the group, members Aston Merrygold, Oritse Williams, Marvin Humes and Jonathan “JB” Gill revealed that they had agonised over the decision for several months saying:
“To each and every JLSter, our beloved fans around the world. We wanted to make sure that you heard it from the four of us, that we have decided to bring our time as a band to an end. It has been the most incredible journey over the last six years and we have achieved more things than we could have ever dreamed possible. Thanks to all of you guys, your support, your dedication and your love, you have changed our lives forever and we wouldn’t be where we are today without you.”
The group originally shot to fame after coming second to Alexandra Burke on the 2008 season of The X Factor UK and have landed five #1 singles, two BRIT Awards and five MOBOS over the course of their career. Despite general surprise over the announcement, the clues may have already been in certain group members decisions to branch out and do other things: Aston is a judge on Sky’s Got To Dance and new dad Marvin recently joned Capital FM to host his own show.
The group won’t sail off into the sunset without saying goodbye to their fans though, a farewell tour, greatest hits album and final single are all in the works.
