The American football star who created the taking the knee symbol of defiance in 2016 to show his disgust at the recent murders of a number of black men by police was treated as a pariah by those in power and ended up being kicked of the team and out of football for the stance he took. Fast forward four years and he is now a national hero who this month has received the Ripple of Hope humanitarian award from the Robert Kennedy Foundation.
Today nearly evey sports league around the world has had its competitors adopting Kaepernick’s pose of support for BLM. The difference it seems was that the white world had to watch a black man being lynched nearly 9 minutes before they took note. Multiple short executions of black folk by gun fire was not enough. Well at least they have finally got the memo, Black Lives Matter.
