Award-winning director Celine Sciamma (Tomboy, Water Lillies), releases an innovative and moving depiction of female adolescence through the incredible film Girlhood.
The rising star Karidja Touré stars as Marieme, a teenage girl who is oppressed by her family and starts a new life by quitting school and befriending a group of free-sprited girls who form a gang. This empowering film portrays the transition from girl to woman, as Marieme faces the consequences of all her foolish decisions.
Using an all black cast, the film highlights the difficult pressures and influences a young woman goes through which women from all ages can relate to. It is described as an “explosive, emotional drama” from The Guardian, and is an exciting unique tale of exploring identity and sisterhood through the eyes of a french girl in Paris.
