Well, if you believe some people’s interpretations of the recently released lyrics to Jay’s new song ‘Holy Grail’ then, yes.
Ahead of the release of his heavily anticipated 13th studio album Magna Carta Holy Grail, which is due for release on July 4th, the legendary rapper has been whetting fans appetites not with snippets of music but rather lyrics of the tracks themselves, the latest of which have caused some to speculate about the state of his marriage to R’n’B diva Beyonce.
Hov, who’s known for his open and honest verses, raps: “But soon as all that money blows / All the pigeons take flight / F*ck the fame / Keep cheating on me / What I do / I took her back / Fool me twice / That’s my bad / I can’t even blame her for that.”
At first glance, it seems like Jay’s insinuating that his clean-cut wife might not be so whiter-than-white after all, but in a video for Samsung promoting his new album app he explains that the song is about the “trappings of fame” and how ”you can chase something so much, and end up with nothing,” rather than Knowles’ infidelity. Phew! Now we can all breathe a sigh of relief!
