Alleyne Dance present a new dance theatre production Far From Home, a show about humanity told through stories of migration and the consequences that the search for “a better life” has for those forced to seek it due to social or political devastations. The hope is to highlight the emotional trauma experienced by migrant families, as well as the impact on communities where migrants “settle”. The world premiere will take place at The Place, London, 4th – 5th November, before touring the UK in 2023. The company was founded by identical twin sisters Kristina and Sadé Alleyne in 2014, and has since enjoyed much success touring the world performing, teaching and choreographing as they deliver on their three main objectives: performance, participation and development.
Kristina and Sadé Alleyne said: “We started out on the journey to make this piece as we wanted to bring two sides of our company together: performing and teaching.
We started to volunteer at refugee centres to hear people’s stories, and have used the inspiration from this in our choreography. It is of paramount importance to us to share the love and hope that we heard during these experiences, not just the tales of sadness. We go on a journey in the piece of separation, loss, travel, friendship, struggle plus the joy of reunification and reconciliation.
It has been a true privilege for us to speak to many people who have been affected by the themes in this production and to be trusted to bring those stories to life on stage.”
As identical twin sisters, we have a close psychic connection, and are used to working as mirror images of each other. This particular journey has been very unique for us as Kristina gave birth to her first child earlier this year. This is the first time that we have created a work where our bodies look and feel different as we are at different stages of our lives. We have also expanded our company and welcomed four new dancers to the cast, whose own personal style have contributed tremendously to the production”.
