Having your own movie-style walk-in wardrobe can seem like a thing that only the rich and famous can have. They are seen as the epitome of luxury with oodles of space to store your precious clothing, shoes and accessories.
But there are ways to create a walk-in wardrobe in the home you have now. Read on to find out how you can achieve your own slice of luxury.
Decide on a location
The most crucial part of a walk-in wardrobe is actually creating the space. If you have a spare room or if your kids have flown the nest and the space is left unused, then this could be the perfect location.
Ideally, use an adjacent room to your bedroom. This improves accessibility and prevents you from running across the house to get dressed in the mornings. However, if all bedrooms are fully occupied, you could section off part of the master bedroom and use that as your walk-in space instead.
Design the storage system
Storage is the main function of a walk-in wardrobe, so it needs to be planned carefully. Take an inventory of all the items you want to store, so you have an idea of where to start.
Sliding bespoke wardrobes are ideal for optimising space whilealso hiding your clothes from view. There are many options available. Drawers can be used for folded clothes as well as serve as trays for your shoe collection.
The structure is the first step, but you can use interior wardrobe organisers to make it easier to find things. These could be coloured dividers for different clothing types or tie racks that can be hung up on the rail with your normal clothes.
Decorating the space
Make sure the finishes of your wardrobe follow the style and design of your room or home. White finishes, for example, will reflect any light, making the space feel larger and brighter. This is helpful for darker rooms or corners.
Think about mirrors as well. You need to be able to see your outfit as you put it together. You can hide mirrors away on the inside of the wardrobe or you could install a full-length mirror on one of the external doors.
Include a seating area
If you have the space, why not incorporate a comfy seating area? This can be used for having friends over to get ready before a night out, or it can even double as storage!
Think about what will fit in your space. A bench-style ottoman would work well under a window or against a wall without taking up much floor space. However, a plush armchair would be incredibly luxurious and give you space to sit and do your makeup if put next to a vanity.
Just remember to avoid using the chair as a place to pile clothes when you’re not wearing them!
