Self-care is a proactive, unconditional way to improve your current state and harness unlimited beauty from within.

Designed to help women with a variety of needs; B-Uzuri supports those who wish to focus on training, or wish to begin a journey of healthier eating; and also, those with a hectic lifestyle seeking a way to incorporate positive changes that will improve overall well-being.

“Self-care is almost like a way of ‘coming home’ to yourself.  It is your time to develop that relationship with yourself so that you can flourish in all aspects of life.”

Akeila Browne – Life Coach

Uzuri means Beauty and Grace in Swahili, and is the inspiration of the app to give black women a platform to assist in fitness and more. Available on Windows and Android, with FREE and £10per month membership options.  The app offers workouts, postpartum friendly exercises, meditation, diet and nutrition information, plus much more for the black women’s lifestyle.

“I understand we are all at different stages in our lives; but I wanted to make a platform that brought together all the elements needed to give a wholistic approach to wellbeing from the black woman’s perspective!”

Exercise has numerous benefits and is a great way to give back to your body!

The B-Uzuri app boasts personal trainers, yoga teachers, life coaches and more.  All with great personalities which give the app a distinctive style!  B-Uzuri trainer Sybella Davis also known as The Chronically Fit Warrior;is a fitness trainer living with a Chronic Health condition called Lupus SLE (Systemic Lupus Erythematosus) which is an inflammatory condition that affects her joints amongst other ailments.  Although Sybella’s condition is invisible it affects her everyday, and can be seen running one day then using a walking stick the next. It’s the nature of her condition and can leave her physically and mentally exhausted. Since her diagnosis, Sybella has focused more on low impact training.  Providing a great example of how to use fitness as a way to help support her condition by strengthening her body while having a physically demanding job.

Our goal is to make an app that benefits your lifestyle.  In addition to helping women understand their bodies, the app encourages women to look at fitness as a gift to themselves.

B-Uzuri aims to help Black women who want to:

  • Focus on maintaining a healthy lifestyle
  • Start and/or improve their fitness journey at a safe pace
  • Explore how to have a varied, dynamic and nutritious plant-based diet from an Afro Caribbean influence
  • Seek encouragement through positive affirmations and meditations

Why exercise?

Some women seek out a fitness journey to focus on weight loss.  However, the benefits of exercise can be much more than this.  A western lifestyle is often full of stresses, processed foods and minimal activity.  B-Uzuri aims to help give focus on areas to help bring you back in balance.

  • Exercise can help with health conditions.
  • Exercise can help with weight maintenance
  • Exercise can be used to improve your cardiovascular system and overall physical health.
  • Exercise can produce mood boosting hormones for a better sense of well-being.
  • Exercise boosts overall strength and energy levels in body.
  • Exercise can promote better sleep.

As well as exercise, the app offers excellent meditation and affirmation videos aimed at helping women in a variety of ways, from focusing on the present to managing stressful situations.

Akeila Browne MA, a featured coach on the app, is a certified life, mindset, and business coach, corporate trainer, and speaker. Akeila has a wealth of experience coaching and has dedicated the last decade to personal development.

“Affirmations allow us to train our brain to not only think in a positive way, but allow us to focus on who we want to be, how we want to behave and remind of us of what we can experience in life if we allow ourselves too.”
