The University of Sydney drama society has decided to put on a production paying homage to one of the biggest names in hip-hop today, Kanye West. The musical will cover the life and career of Mr. West from his days as beat-maker and producer to the likes of Jay-Z and Common to his ascent to superstar status.
Kanye fans Phillip Roser and Damien Higginbotham were the brains behind the show which also features cameos from West’s late mother Donda, designer Marc Jacobs and a “spooky Dracula.” Of their decision to commit Kanye’s career to musical form Roser said: “I’m a big Kanye fan. I thought that a musical in his honour would be a lot of fun to put on. I really just meant the show to be something fun for my friends to see and I’m pretty excited by all the attention it’s been getting.”
The musical’s official Facebook page, describes it as: “A struggle against the man to become the man. It’s about a guy who took a shot at the throne and didn’t miss. This is the tale of Kanye. It won’t let the truth get in the way and will be a lot of fun.”
Kanye: The Musical will run during September 5th and September 7th during Sydney university’s annual Verge festival. It will also feature original songs written for the musical in the “style of Kanye”.
