Love Island 2019: Meet Yewande and Sherif

Say goodbye to all your plans as our summertime obsession Love Island returns to our screens. With twelve confirmed singletons ready to find love in the Majorcan heat, we’re in for a treat. Be prepared to see a whole lot of cracking on, people getting mugged off and challenges that test who’s really loyal. It seems as if Love Island bosses have listened to fans’ calls for diversity in the show and have cast not one but two Dark-skinned contestants in their initial roundup – hooray?

Yewande Biala is a 23-year-old scientist from Dublin, who is bringing melanated goodness to the villa, as the only Black girl so far. She describes herself as “ easy to get along with, funny and caring”. However, Yewande also admits that she “talks too much” which can get her into trouble.

After a handful of bad dates Yewande, she doesn’t believe there’s a science to finding love, “if there is then I have clearly been reading the wrong books.” When it comes to love her ideal man needs to be “tall and athletic”, perhaps someone a bit like her celebrity Anthony Joshua.  With a turn off for arrogance, let’s hope Yewande find her perfect match this season.

Chef and semi-pro rugby player Sherif Lanre is also looking for some villa lovin’ this year. The self-confessed joker is 20 years old and from London, he describes himself as “cheeky, upbeat and outrageous.” Sherif admits that he has a bad habit of laughing at the wrong time which can get him into trouble he explains “ I can’t really take anything seriously” and warns us that his laughs “pretty ugly.”

His ideal woman would be Instagram model and influencer Tori Brixx, who’s currently dating rapper Rich the Kid. However, this year he’s looking for a girl with a nice set of teeth, smile, bum and she has to make him laugh in return, whew. Sherif stands by bro-code and affirms, “Nothing leaves the circle … anything we speak about we keep to ourselves.” Despite having a wandering eye Sherif says he’s pretty loyal too, which we know is important in the villa.

Here are some reactions from Love Island’s excited fans:

The recent deaths of former Love Island contestants Mike Thalassitis and Sophie Grodon sparked concerns for the welfare of reality TV stars. The show has now introduced a new set duty of care rules. As well as providing training for islanders on social media and financial management they have also included a psychological consultant who will look after the islanders from pre-filming to after their time on the show.

Will these singletons find true love this summer or will they be jetting back on their own? Stay tuned!

Now in it is fifth season Love Island returns to ITV on June 3rd.
