Congrats are in order for Michael Kiwanuka after he was named the winner of the BBC Sound of 2012 poll. The 24-year-old blues singer was thrilled to top the BBC’s annual list which pegs the stars destined to break out and achieve great things over the course of that year. Past winners have included the likes of Adele and Jessie J, two of the biggest UK female artists out right now, both of whom have gone on to achieve huge success. After fending off Brooklyn rapper Azealia Banks and star-in the-making Frank Ocean, Michael who some have heralded the new Bill Withers, had this to say about topping the influential list: “It’s all come as a bit of a shock. I don’t quite know how it’s happened – but I’m enjoying it.”
