Michelle Obama and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie in conversation – in London!

Sometimes, exciting news comes along that brings the entire room to a standstill – and this is exactly what happened in the Pride office when it was announced that Michelle Obama was not only coming to the UK, but that for one evening only, she’ll be chatting with Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie at an event titled, ‘Becoming: An Evening with Michelle Obama’!

As part of her promotional tour for her upcoming autobiography, ‘Becoming’, the former First Lady will sit down on Monday 3rd December 2018 at London’s Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall for a Q&A with Adichie, the Nigeria-born author of highly-acclaimed novels Americanah and Purple Hibiscus. We LIVE for this!

According to a statement released on Friday (2nd November), Mrs O will spend the evening reflecting on the content of her memoir, Michelle Obama will invite audiences into her world, chronicling the experiences that have shaped her, ‘from her childhood on the South Side of Chicago to her years as an executive balancing the demands of motherhood and work to her time spent at the world’s most famous address.

‘With unerring honesty and lively wit, she will recount her triumphs and her disappointments – both public and private – and in candidly recounting moments from her own extraordinary journey, Mrs Obama will also share life lessons learned, and inspire people to become the very best version of themselves.’

Moderated by someone as influential to the literary world (and our conceptions of ‘Black Girl Magic’) as Chimamanda, this seems like an evening not to miss if you can help it. And for a lucky 300 secondary school pupils, they’ll have the chance to attend the talk for free, courtesy of Mrs O, Southbank Centre and Penguin Live.

An allocation of tickets for ‘Becoming: An Evening with Michelle Obama’ will go on sale to Southbank Centre Members at 10.00am on Wednesday 7th November – and for everyone else, further allocation will go on sale to the general public at 10.00am on Thursday 8th November. Ticket prices range from £30 to £125. Each ticket will include a hardback copy of Becoming (RRP £25.00), supplied by Waterstones.

We don’t know about you, but our alarms are SET. Christmas has come early!
