Michelle Obama: “I’m not an angry black woman”

US First Lady Michelle Obama made the front pages of today’s papers over her claims about the way in which black women are portrayed in the media and in general. Mrs Obama spoke refuted claims that she is “an angry black woman” in light of a recently published unauthrised biography by New York Times reporter, Jodi Kantor.

Kantor’s book entitled The Obamas, is based on interviews conducted with 33 White House staff and documents life behind White House doors. The book offers up an extremely unflattering view of Michelle Obama, and points to her as being directly responsible for the exits of key members of the Obama Administration like former Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel and former Press Secretary Robert Gibbs. In an interview with CBS News reporter, Gayle King Michelle Obama hit back at Jodi Kantor’s claims that she wields a significant amount of power behind the scenes and is quick to eliminate any member of staff who threatens to sever the connection between her lips and her her husband Barack Obama’s ears. The Frst Lady dismissed the book and it’s allegations as being another attempt to perpetuate this stereotypical image of her as “some kind of angry black woman.”

What do you think? Does the first lady raise a valid point?
