After years of legal wrangling, Mutya Buena can finally breathe a sigh of relief as courts ruled in her favour as regards a legal dispute over the Sugababes name. The singer, who left the band in 2005 to pursue a solo career amidst claims of infighting is now permitted to use the band name on products including ‘paper, cardboard and goods made from these materials’. The ruling effectively means that Mutya can produce stationery, gift wrap and gift wrapping ribbons.
The current line up of the band: Amelle Berrabah, Heidi Range and Jade Ewen have commented on the matter saying it is “business as usual” for the band as they still have legal rights to the Sugababes name for all areas of commercial activity, such as music, sound recording and a wide range of merchandise.
The original line-up of the band included Buena, Siobhan Doherty and Keisha Buchanan who left last year after being allegedly forced out. Fans were up in arms about the current line up continuing to use the band name particularly as the initial members had all left.
