Clint Dyer, the new deputy artistic director at the National Theatre shows why it is important to have these black role models in positions of influence and power. Because it is his childhood that he can turn to for inspiration for plays and with that in mind he has chosen one of his first productions at the National to be the new Bob Marley musical, Get up! Stand Up!
Clint explained, ‘he’s part of my DNA, we had this big wooden record player, nearly the size of the sofa. My sisters and I would come back from church and my dad would be blasting our reggae before we had our Sunday lunch, and Bob was the main article… he gave us something to believe in.”
Amen to that.
