We think we speak for everyone when we say: Thank God it’s Friday, and roll on the bank holiday! But just before we say cheers to the freakin’ weekend, here’s this week’s installment of New Music Friday – our roundup of hot tracks to make the soundtrack of your summer.
Entertainer – Zayn
Former One Direction member Zayn has long shed his pop band skin for a more mature genre releasing his newest single, ‘Entertainer’ this week, which we can’t help but like. The song and music video seems to be a follow up of his previous song ‘Let Me’ as it stars the same girl as the centre of his attentions. Interestingly, the model starring in the video resembles his ex Gigi Hadid (a classic Justin Timberlake, ‘Cry Me A River’ video move) in this lovesick themed song.
Be Careful – Cardi B
Probably one of this year’s top girl anthems, and one of the most-streamed songs from Cardi’s album Invasion of Privacy, ‘Be Careful’ finally has a music video to go with it. This song is packed with perfect lines to caption Instagram posts, ready to make sly digs at anyone who has done you wrong. In the video, Cardi is seen wearing a stunning wedding dress, and pays homage to the classic film all about getting revenge, Kill Bill.
Queen – Jessie J
If you need to feel empowered and reminded of just how beautiful being a woman is no matter of size, shape or skin then you need to listen to Jessie J’s new song, ‘Queen’. The versatile artist showcases women of colours, shapes, ages as well as women with disabilities, looking happy and confident in their own skin. The song kicks of with Jessie J singing directly to her listeners saying: ‘Stop playing with your body lady / Stop feeling like you’re not enough / Stop feeding into the haters.’ The song is all about embracing your “goddess” like self and rejecting what society deem as beautiful and say “that it’s fake expectation / not the real sh*t”.
Dinero – Jennifer Lopez ft. DJ Khaled and Cardi B
It was only a matter of time that J-Lo and Cardi B collaborated together. The two Latin queens get together on this song with DJ Khaled in the bilingual banger, ‘Dinero’ – the Spanish word for ‘money’. Fittingly, the completely black and white music video oozes luxury, and moneyed living, with even a guest appearance from an ostrich – seriously! The three are clearly having a great time, and watching, you can’t help but have fun too.
