If recent news reports are anything to go by, hip-hop power couple Beyonce and Jay-Z have taken the phrase ‘giving your child the best start in life’ to a whole new level. Apparently the couple who welcomed their first child –a daughter named Blue Ivy Carter, into the world barely a month ago have signed up the Big O on (fairy) godmother duties. The announcement seems fitting for a child who has two superstar parents, celebrity offspring waiting in the wings to make friends and has already achieved a feature on a Billboard charting track.
The couple were reportedly keen to ensure that the godparents were not blood relations and to the surprise of many decided to opt for media maven Oprah Winfrey rather than their close friends and rumoured shoo-ins for the position, American actress Gwyneth Paltrow and her Coldplay singer husband, Chris Martin. Oprah is said to be very close to the couple and was always the first choice for the spot. Joining her as the baby’s godfather is Tyran “Ty-Ty” Smith who is also thought to be close to both Jay and Bey.
One thing’s for sure. The future’s bright the future’s (blue) Ivy.
