This past Monday the internet was abuzz after a video surfaced showing a woman racially abusing her fellow passengers on a tram going through south London. The clip which has been viewed over five million times since being uploaded on Sunday, was filmed by a passenger and even sparked a Twitter trending topic under the hashtag #MyTramExperience. The woman in question has been identified as 34-year-old Emma West of New Addington, Croydon and has since been arrested after being accused of racially/religiously aggravated intentional harassment.
The disturbing video footage, shows West complaining about ethnic minorities living in Britain. She starts by saying: “What has this country come to? … with loads of black people and a load of fucking Polish. You ain’t English either. None of you are fucking English. Get back to your own fucking, d’you know what? Sort out your own countries. Don’t come and do mine. Britain is nothing now. Britain is fuck all.” West continued her racist tirade despite other passenger’s pleas for her to stop and bear in mind her four-year-old son who sat on her lap throughout the incident.
Emma West is next due to appear at Croydon Magistrates’ Court on 6th December 2011.
British Transport Police said the YouTube clip was of an incident on the Croydon-to-Wimbledon Tramlink route.
