Though today, we have social media to have instant access to all of our favourite celebrities, there’s nothing like a good ol’ long-form interview to give us some classic moments and insights into the life of the A List. And in her recent interview with Vogue, Rihanna proved exactly why she’s everyone’s favourite.
In a piece released on Thursday (3rd May), the 30-year-old musician / fashion icon / entrepreneur revealed her thoughts about getting older, her passion for beauty and even touched on her romance with Saudi billionaire Hassan Jameel (FYI, she’s still off the market, folks!).
However, one of the most eyebrow-raising parts of her chat was her admission that she and once-frequent collaborator Drake were no longer friends – awks!

Back in 2016, Rihanna scooped the MTV Vanguard Award at the VMAs – and with it being an award that’s only bestowed upon the most influential artists of all time, this was an incredible honour for her.
However, many of the headlines surrounding that moment were dominated by the fact that Drake, who has never been shy with his affections for Rih, gave a gushing speech about his love and admiration for her before presenting her with the statuette.
Though some saw this as the official start of their relationship, in reality it seems as if it was the death knell of their flirtation.
‘Waiting through that speech was probably the most uncomfortable part,’ Rih said, after ‘wincing’ at the mention of Drake’s name. ‘I don’t like too many compliments; I don’t like to be put on blast.’
Oh dear – but it gets worse. When interviewer Chioma Nnadi asked about the state of their relationship now, Rihanna made it absolutely where they stand – and it’s not even in the friendzone:
‘We don’t have a friendship now, but we’re not enemies either. It is what it is.’
Yikes! Well, lesson learned – never try to steal Rihanna’s moment with cringeworthy (and non-mutual) declarations of love, or your number will be swiftly deleted…
Elsewhere, Rihanna opened up about her musical plans for the future – a reggae album is on the horizon, hurrah! – and, about her current mindset of being ‘savage’.
‘Savage is really about taking complete ownership of how you feel and the choices you make. Basically making sure everybody knows the ball is in your court,’ said Rih.
‘As women, we’re looked at as the needy ones, the naggy ones, the ones who are going to be heartbroken in a relationship. Savage is just the reverse. And you know, guys don’t like getting the cards flipped on them—ever.’
True lessons, Rihanna! We don’t know about you, but this mindset has us feeling mighty inspired right now…
