Not a day goes by without the music world’s favourite pop princess, Rihanna stirring up some kind of controversy. This time, the 23-year-old has hit back at critics claming that they are trying to force her to be something she has never tried to or wanted to be. In an interview with the UK edition of fashion bible Vogue, the singer said: “See, people – especially white people – they want me to be a role model just because of the life I lead.”
Just this past week, the ‘S&M’ singer came under fire for running round topless while filming a music video on a farm in Ireland and in the process offending landowners. Rihanna is also freqently criticised for her risque stage outfits, antics and most recently for wearing a necklace emblazoned with the word ‘c***.’ Of the furore she has caused, Rihanna responded: “It’s funny. The word is so offensive to everyone in the world except for Bajans. The things I say in my songs, they expect it of me and being a role model became more of my job than I wanted it to be. I just want to make music and that’s it.”
What do you think? Should Rihanna be more mindful of her actions or be allowed to do what she feels like?
