Don’t miss out! Sweet Like Chocolate Boy’s final London performance

Theatre lovers, listen up – there’s one more chance to catch Tristan Fynn-Aiduenu’s fantastic play Sweet Like Chocolate Boy in London, and if you can help it, you shouldn’t miss it!

On Saturday 20th July, the cast will take to the stage of Theatre Peckham for a final London performance, before the tour ends on 7th September, The Lowry, Salford.

With the play’s title coming from Fynn-Aiduenu’s favourite song, the 90s garage hit from Shanks and Bigfoot, this theatre piece tells the timeline-fluid story of Mars, who is a street-smart, enthusiastic, lyrically saturated man, on the edge, about to propose to the girl of his dreams in present-day London. At the same time, Bounty, a very quiet boy in a very loud Borough, is paddling through the 90s with this new politically charged Black identity swirling around him. As the worlds of Mars and Bounty collide, Sweet Like Chocolate Boy asks if they can find their place in these times or will they get chewed, swallowed and digested by it?

For audiences and critics alike, Sweet Like Chocolate Boy has been a highly enjoyable, magnetic piece of art. Twice nominated for an Offie (The Off West End Theatre Award), Fynn-Aiduenu’s piece is a feat in storytelling, and brings back a feeling of genuine life in Black Britain in the 1990s, with thought-provoking offerings about the political mood of the time.

‘It presents the idea of what revolution is from various viewpoints during politically charged times within Britain and examines each of them in depth,’ explains Fynn-Aiduenu. ‘No one character is seen as solely good or bad, but rather as people desperate to not just exist – but breathe and enjoy their lives as Black British people.’
