Pride would like to applaud Reni Eddo Lodge on becoming the first ever black British author to take overall no.1 position in the UK’s official book charts.
Why I’m No Longer Talking to White People About Race which was published back in 2017 topped the June 2020 charts and had started 3 years earlier as a popular blog in which she explained why she was sick of trying to make the majority of white people understand the legitimacy of structural racism and its symptons.
The only other black author to make it to no 1 on the list was First Lady Michelle Obama in 2018 with her memoir Becoming.
Eddo-Lodge explained, “It feels absolutely wild to have broken this record but my work stands on the shoulders of so many black literary giants – Bernadine Evaristo, Benjamin Zephaniah, Zadie Smith, Andrea Levy, Jackie Kay, Gary Younge – to name just a few”.
And we Pride wants to encourage our readers to read more of their works as it often relates to our experience and so our journey that is so often never recognised by society at large.
