Be easy to find!
Make it really easy for other people to find you on the network – time to make yourself stick out like a sore thumb! Make sure you have all the relevant keywords to your industry in your profile as this is what recruiters will use to search for their next member of staff. Your LinkedIn headline is the perfect place to do this – make sure that it really spells out who you are and what you want.
Get to work!
Make sure you put in as much effort as you can into your profile. You would never send off a half finished or mispelled CV to a potential employer so why would you have a half done profile? Make your answers full but concise and make sure you activate as much of your profile as possible. It’ll show employers you are willing to put the work in.
It’s just the same as a paper CV you know!
You wouldn’t cover your paper CV in cliches so don’t do it on your LinkedIn. Words like ‘effective’ and ‘strategic’ are just buzz words that we use to make ourselves sound like we can do a job. Instead try using LinkedIn’s dynamic features such as the ability to add presentations and videos to your profile to really show off your skills.
Follow your dreams!
There are millions of company pages on LinkedIn and this is the perfect opportunity to stalk the companies you would like to work for and get the inside track on opportunities available. It’s also a great chance to familiarise yourself with the company’s culture and what makes them tick.
