Tributes pour in as showbiz mourns the death of Whitney Houston

The entertainment world, if not theworld as a whole was shocked this past Sunday as news that legendary singer Whitney Houston had died. The 48-year-old singer, famed as much for her illustrious career as her well-doumented struggles with alcohol and drug abuse was found dead in the bath of her hotel room at LA’s Beverly Hilton on Saturday afternoon by a member of her entourage. It is thought that the singer may have drowned after accidentally overdosing on a lethal cocktail of alcohol and prescription drugs including sleeping pills and anti-anxiety medication. The news came just hours after Houston was seen partying at Tru nightclub i to the early hours of the morning with her 18-year-old daughter Bobbi Kristina.

Whitney Houston shot to fame in 1985 and has a back catalogue of hits including ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’, ‘I’m Every Woman’ as well as the colossal ‘I Will Always Love You’. With a string of awards, 200 million records sold and Hollywood roles under her belt, Houston’s life was defined as much by her music as it was by her tumultuous marriage to American R&B singer Bobby Brown who simply commented on his ex wife’s passing by saying “I love you, Whitney.”

Fans, family members and stars expressed their grief at the news on Sunday with Barbara Streisand, Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan and Sir Elton John among those who paid tribute to the late troubled singer.
