Yesterday morning the entertainment industry waited with bated breath for the Academy Award nominations to be announced. The awards –considered to be the holy grail for any actor worth their salt, celebrate the best and brightest Hollywood has to offer. Pride were thrilled to learn that black American actresses Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer had both been recognised for their work in 2011’s The Help and received well-deserved nominations for this year’s awards. Viola Davis was honoured in the Best Actress category for her powerful portrayal of stoic, dignified maid Aibileen Clarke while Octavia Spencer was recognised for her role as sharp talking, sassy maid Minnie Jackson.
As expected Meryl Streep, Michelle Williams and Rooney Mara picked up nominations for The Iron Lady, My Week with Marilyn and Girl with The Dragon Tattoo respectively.
The winners will be announced at the ceremony on February 26th.
