What’s On – December 2019

Looking for things to keep you busy over the festive season? We’ve got some suggestions, right here…

From 4th December: The Snow Queen (Park Theatre, London)

Finsbury Park’s The Park Theatre presents an adaptation of fairy-tale writer Hans Christian Andersen’s classic, The Snow Queen for the festive season, and it’s a perfect tale for the whole family. The story follows Gerda on an epic journey to save her friend Cei from the Snow Queen. Running until 4th January 2020, this is a fresh retelling of an often-told story – and with a cast that really reflects the diversity of London, it lets little Black girls and boys know that they can be part of fairytales too.

Chicago-born visual artist Theaster Gates is revered in the art scene as one of the world’s most influential living artists. Blending social practice, performance and the use of space in his work, Gates’ creations are powerful and successfully carry important messages in them. His first major UK exhibition explores the complex and interweaving issues of race, territory, and inequality in the United States. Taking Malaga, a small island off the coast of Maine, USA as its point of departure, Amalgam presents sculpture, installation, film and dance that responds to the history of forced removal of the island’s ethnically-mixed community to the mainland during the 19th century. With migration ever a relevant topic, this comes to Liverpool at an ideal time. http://bit.ly/350z5tE
