The all-female cappella group are the most popular in Europe, and are celebrated worldwide for bringing the black oral tradition to the cappella world stage. In one of the standout annual celebrations for International Women’s Day, the Women of the World Festival returns to London’s Southbank Centre. The line-up of speakers and workshop guests has been consistently impressive, and is certainly the case this time around – Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, June Sarpong and former Pride cover girl Munroe Bergdorf are just a few names who’ll be making an appearance. 8th,9th & 21st: H.E.R. (UK tour)
Mysterious and sensual R&B soul-stress H.E.R. is making her UK debut, beginning at O2 Ritz in Manchester, before concluding at OnLondon’s Shepherd’s Bush Empire – and she’s not one to miss. Closing 24th: LEGACIES OF BIAFRA (London)
In respect of the 50th anniversary of Nigeria’s Biafra civil war, the Brunei Gallery of SOAS will be holding a multi-media exhibition featuring works from the artistic collective Nigeria Art Society UK (NASUK). The art will explore the on-going impact of the war through archival materials, short films and more to unfold how history has influenced the perception of both Africa and the wider world. 26th –30th: JACOB BANKS (UK tour)
Birmingham soul singer Jacob Banks is extending his Into The Wild tour with three new dates for 2018. The Motown-influenced singer has already conquered sold out shows, and will also be performing at this year’s Coachella festival alongside Beyoncé and Cardi B. 29th: BLACKSTREET, MYA & CASE (Birmingham)
Nineties American R&B group Blackstreet are returning to the stage to take you back (way back, What’sGet out and enjoy the finest gigs and events this MarchCompiled by Rhia Harryback into time) with classic hits such as ‘No Diggity’ and ‘Don’t Leave Me’. 31st: SISTER ACT LIVE CHOIR (Birmingham)
Take part in a unique cinema experience of the smash hit musical comedy Sister Act.
